SCHÖTTLE’S OKTOBERFEST TIPS
Not every citizen of Munich can afford the Oktoberfest fun – many of them have to get their food from Münchner Tafel (a charity organization). Thanks to the campaign Prostspenden you can support the Münchner Tafel. For every beer you drink, donate a Euro or more – very easily online at www.prostspenden.de.
SHOOTERS OUTDOOR GALLERY WITH A VIEW OF THE BAVARIA STATUE
You know that it is not always easy to secure a place in the festival tents at Oktoberfest. Your best chance is in the morning on a week day. If the sun is shining, there is nothing better than a white sausage breakfast in the outdoor gallery of the Schützenfestzelt [shooter’s festival tent] with a view of the Bavaria statue.
“COSTUME SHOW” IN THE KÄFER
Traditionally, the Munich celebrities gather at the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke – including members of the famous “smart set”, TV stars, football stars or business tycoons. As a rule, the Dirndl’s on show are as extravagant as the crowd. If you want to be amazed, stop by the Käfer.
TIPS FOR HAVING MORE FUN AT OKTOBERFEST
Personally, my favorite day to visit Oktoberfest is Sunday. I like to treat myself to a cold platter in the beer garden around 3 pm, then it’s into the tent at 7 pm and at 9 pm I make my way home. Generally, you can save yourself a lot of trouble if you leave the tent half an hour before the official closing time. And so that it’s not too hard to get up for work the next morning, simply skip the “After party” during the week – you should quit while you’re ahead anyway :)
My final piece of advice: In the Armbrustschützenzelt don’t go to the toilet too often. Because every time, you go past the schnapps – and the “Obstler flap” gets more irresistible as the evening goes on ;)
Have fun at Oktoberfest!
