Lina's Platzl tip: Winter hike around Munich
Why is it worth going hiking in winter?
Everything is much quieter in winter - there are simply fewer people out and about. I find it much more pleasant to hike in colder temperatures. The fresh air feels good and you don't sweat so quickly - which is really nice! (laughs) Plus, there's just something magical about a snow-covered landscape. After a hike, a warm drink or meal tastes even better - you've really earned it! And what better way to round off a day of hiking than with a relaxing sauna session, for example in our sauna area? The warmth is good for you and ensures that your body gets back up to temperature after the cold winter air.
Do you have a favorite route?
Yes, my favorite hike in winter is to Neureuth, near Lake Tegernsee. The route is perfect because it can be reached not only by car, but also very easily by train from Munich Central Station in less than 1.5 hours. There are several paths leading to the top, all of which are easy to walk - even when there is snow, making it a little more strenuous. The tour is doable for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an experienced hiker.
Is there a highlight along the way that you shouldn't miss?
Oh yes, the view of Lake Tegernsee! The panorama when you get to the top is simply fantastic: the mountain peaks and the Alps are covered in snow in winter and glisten in the sun. It's worth taking your camera with you to capture the moment.
How do you prepare for a winter hike?
Very important: take snacks with you! For example, the signature sandwich and a "Rohstoff" immune booster shot (the apple-turmeric-lemon variety is particularly good!) from our Josefa give me the energy I need for the journey. I also like to take a cappuccino with the Tender Blend coffee roast with me to start the day's hiking. I always opt for an onion look for my hiking clothes - it's better to wear one layer too many than too few. Especially on icy paths, spikes (snow chains for hiking boots) are essential for me to ensure I have enough grip. And what many people forget: Sunglasses can also be worth their weight in gold in winter, especially when the sun is shining on the snow.
Is there anything you always take with you on your hikes?
I always pack a pocket knife: Not only can I use it to cut my Josefa sandwich or fruit, but also to repair my equipment. A change of clothes is also always included, as well as comfortable and robust hiking boots that provide a firm grip even on snowy paths.
Thank you for your great tips, dear Lina.
